20 Years Celebration Of Culture And The Culinary

Enjoying a unique liaison of high-calibre music and dance films and the delicious delights of culinary treats from around the world, each summer, up to 700,000 music-lovers turn the square in front of Vienna’s City Hall into the heart of a vibrant world capital of music...

This year, celebrating its 20th anniversary, from 3 to 11 July and from 19 July to 12 September (intermitted by a series of events taking place in the framework of the XVIII International Aids Conference in Vienna), the programme of the Film Festival’s 20th edition offers many new opportunities to meet the protagonists of today’s music theatre as well as great legends of the past. In addition to cinematographically commemorating the 20th anniversary of Leonard Bernstein’s death, the Film Festival at Wiener Rathausplatz 2010 will render homage to the art of this year’s historic jubilees, Gustav Mahler and Fr?d?ric Chopin. A ballet special will focus on Rudolf Nurejew, and jazz aficionados can be looking forward to meeting Dee Dee Bridgewater, Grande Dame of vocal jazz on screen.

All in all, a splendorous celebration of tradition and the contemporary, of opera, operetta, classical and modern dance, jazz, pop and world music. Splendid architectural design and latest audiovisual technology in High Definition will again shine a light of future onto the 20 x 11,5m screen in front of Vienna’s City Hall...

Enjoy the unrivalled Wiener Rathausplatz experience in this summer’s most inviting marriage of culture and the culinary!
